This one is about our first pet as a married couple. Kitty was just a plain black and white cat who we got as a tiny kitten we picked up from a neighbor in Virginia. I was working at Navy Air and Rework Facility at Norfolk Naval Base at the time.

As a kitten, he was just the cutest little fella you ever saw, but unfortunately, he grew up. He turned out to be pretty damn mean when he chose to be, which, in this case, was at the worst possible time. You see, when I get sick, I am very loud. This particular day, I had left the bathroom door open while I stood over the toilet, getting violently sick and making a lot of noise. I think that’s what set kitty off, because the next thing I knew was being attacked and literally torn to shreds on the back of my leg.

To witness it would probably have been funny as heck, but having been the recipient of said attack, there was nothing funny about it. Here I was trying to hit the toilet at the same time trying to bat the cat. This is definitely TMI, but there ended up being blood and yak all over the place. He tore me up pretty good that day, with the back of my legs tore to pieces. I couldn’t be mad at him though, since it was probably his reaction to my overly dramatic sick time. At that moment however, I could have put out his lights, if I had been well enough to do so.

Its hard to believe this was the same cat, that years later, I would have to call out of work for, because I couldn’t compose myself. I had just buried him in the back yard.

Here’s thinking of you Kitty!!
