During my early childhood and well into my teens, my parents square danced with another couple. They also played pinochle together every Saturday night. This usually happen at George and Diana’s house, the other couple. They also had a large brood of kids and everyone of them were girls. My family consisted of six boys and one girl. Needless to say, this was a match made in heaven for Blaine and I.
On those Saturday nights, Blaine and I were brought along to keep the girls busy. By that, I mean we all played games until the parents card game was finished, usually around the 11 o’clock hour. We played the whole night, Tag, Hide and Seek and Red Rover were our favorites. By the time we were through most of us would be past out on the chairs, couch and floor. When it was finally time to go Dad would usually have to carry Blaine and sometimes had to come back and carry me also.

Of course, as we got older we would walk ourselves to the car. Most of the time Blaine and I would sleep on the way home, but on rare occasions, we would amuse ourselves in one way or another. We live about 45 miles away so we had plenty of time to do both. We also had a station wagon, so there was a lot of room to sleep or plenty of windows to wave or make faces as other cars drove by. When I think of my memories of this caliber, I realize, I really did have an awesome life, especially in childhood. I hope that this story will jar loose a memory or two for you. Have a Blessed evening.
